Default no dial tone

Just purchased a Grandstream Budget Tone 101 phone. I configured the phone and it will make calls but I do not get a dial tone. Don't know if the problem is in the settings, my router or just where.

Anybody seen this before? and know a solution?

Hi,

You can make calls but have no dial tone? This is strange, does it recieve calls?

What type of calls are you making, local extension calls or across a WAN using a VoIP SIP Service Provider?

Thank you.

I am using a SIP service provider. It will make local and long distance calls over WAN. I cannot receive calls.

In further checking, the phone is not Registering with my provider. I can bi-pass my router and it does register and works normally. (get a dial tone, can send and receive calls) I can then reconnect to my router and it will continue to work, but if I reboot the phone it will not re-register while connected to my router. I have open the ports in the router according to the router manufacturer settings for a SIP phone but it has not helped.

Default Grandstream phone no dial tone

Wow thats strange, what Service Provider do you use?

Do they require you to have some sort of Static IP, is the routers DHCP screwing it up?

I now believe that the whole problem was that the STUN server that was preconfigured in the phone settings when I got it was wrong. Can't explain why, but when changed it to a public STUN server, the phone now works great.
