Lightbulb Polycom Firmware, SIP, Configuration file update instructions

I often get requests for how to update firmware or update configuration files for a Polycom IP4000.

I find the easiest way to get a new Polycom BootRom, Polycom Firmware or Polycom Configuration files onto the IP4000 (or other Polycom units for the matter) is to use a TFTP Server.
  1. First off you need a TFTP server if you do not already have one, a very simple and easy to use Windows Client is PumpKIN.

  2. The next step would be to gather all of the files you need to update your Polycom Device. If you are a customer of ours you can receive the files from our support center, under Polycom Downloads. Please email support@888voipstore.com with your order number to receive the passwords for downloads.

  3. Place the needed files into the root of your TFTP server Download Directory.

    • Ensure the TFTP server is "on/serving" so the Polycom Unit can contact it. Also make sure its within the same subnet and network so the two devices can reach each other.
Now that your TFTP server is running, we need to make sure the Polycom Unit is set up to search for TFTP updates.

These instructions are specifically for the IP4000 however other units are VERY similar if not identical.

On the unit itself:
  1. Press the Menu Button
  2. Scroll down and select Settings
  3. Scroll down and select Advanced
  4. Enter the password of '456'
  5. Select Admin Settings
  6. Select Network Settings
  7. Scroll down and choose Server Menu
  8. Now Select/Edit Server Type, use the Arrows to change it to Trivial FTP
  9. Now Select/Edit Address, and enter the IP Address of your TFTP server
  10. All the default values should be fine, unless you created a custom USER/PASSWORD on the TFTP server. Otherwise just LEAVE the Polycom Values in.
  11. Now SAVE Changes and REBOOT
You should see the TFTP server Serve the files and the Polycom phone should read its "updating firmware..cofiguration etc..". This process may take a bit of time so please be patient.
